Kanani Akina lives in a beautiful seaside town in Hawaii, where her family runs a popular shave ice shop and animal rescue. She loves welcoming tourists and sharing the aloha spirit, but her world gets turned upside down when her cousin Rachel comes to visit from New York City. Rachel is homesick, hates the heat, and wants nothing to do with the beach or the outdoors. Just as Kanani struggles to find common ground with her cousin, she discovers an injured monk seal pup tangled in a fishing net. To save the endangered animal, Kanani has to find a way to connect with Rachel, work past their differences, and rally her community around protecting Hawaii's marine wild
