In this 1944 story, a kind elderly couple living in the mountains desires a beast of burden to help them transport their garden vegetables to the local market. After a bit of wishing, they are granted a small donkey, whom they quickly grow to adore. However, instead of putting her to work, the couple pampers and spoils her with so much affection that she becomes incredibly headstrong. When the time finally comes for her to earn her keep, the stubborn animal flatly refuses to climb even the smallest hill, leading to a humorous struggle between the doting owners and their overly refined pet.
