"Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose" Dr. Seuss - 2011
This humorous rhyming tale features a generous, exceptionally kind moose living in a herd near the northern shore of Lake Winna-Bango. When a tiny Bingle Bug asks for a short ride on his antlers, the hospitable host gladly agrees, only to watch in dismay as the bug invites an increasingly obnoxious sequence of freeloading tenants—including a tree spider, a family of birds, a squirrel, a bobcat, and even a heavy bear—to take up permanent residence on his head. Refusing to violate his strict code of hospitality, the gentle giant patiently endures the heavy physical burden and social isolation from his own herd, who eventually abandon him to cross the lake for the winter. Just as a group of hunters corners the exhausted animal, who is entirely unable to run due to the massive weight on his head, nature provides a perfectly timed rescue when it comes time to naturally cast off his old horns. He successfully sheds his crowded antlers, leaves his ungrateful passengers behind to be captured by the hunters, and joyfully swims across the lake to safely rejoin his herd.
